“Have you ever photographed a birth?” asked Brittany Asay a few months into her pregnancy. “No..” I replied with a slight consciousness of where this conversation was headed. Well, I was right! I accepted the offer to photograph Brittany’s second birth of her baby girl. I love taking on new challenges with my photography but let me honest, I don’t think I have ever been so nervous to photograph something! I was constantly doing research on other photographers that shoot birth’s to make sure I knew exactly what to get, especially on a counts that I have never even been inside the room during a birth before. Did it seem strange to me at first? Yes, but after thinking about it this is basically one of the most special days in a persons life along the side of a couples wedding. Why wouldn’t anyone want to remember this incredible moment being unfolded?! I have to say this was one of the most remarkable experiences I have ever had so far through photography! It was September 4th & I was actually camping in San Onofre for the weekend with some of Brittany’s family when Brittany’s sister Kandace received “the phone call”. I don’t think anyone has ever packed up a campground as fast as we did that day! The family & I headed to the Riverside Kaiser where the waiting began. Of course for me I shot anything & everything I could during this time. The night grew late & baby Mabel was still not ready to come out. By then we were aware that her birthday would for sure be September 5th. She was going to be born on Labor Day!! Coincidence? ;) The time finally arrived for this precious little girl to enter the world. I’ll go ahead & let you experience the rest of her the story on your own.
I am so proud to be sharing my first birth story with you!! Keep in mind this is a documentation of a birth & all that comes along with it. With that being said, be pre-warned if you have a weak stomach because you might want to skip this post. Even though you’re only going to be missing out on the most beautiful thing ever!! I hope you enjoy it! :)
Family waited a few hours hours for Mabel’s arrival…. Including her super excited big brother Owen!
Labor Day baby!!
Brittany’s husband Joe was an awesome support system for Brittany throughout the whole delivery!
Congratulations Brittany & Joe on your new perfect baby girl! Thank you so much for this opportunity! I’m honored that you allowed me be a part of such a precious moment!
Welcome to the world Mabel Faith Asay!
